Myles J. Lane '28, Assistant United State Attorney in New York City since 1937, has been appointed Chief Assistant to United States Attorney Irving H. Saypol.

At Dartmouth Myles Lane was known as one of the outstanding athletes of his college generation. Besides being chosen in several Ail-American football selections and rating as eastern high scorer in football, he excelled in baseball and hockey. After graduation he financed his way through law school by coaching football at Dartmouth, Boston University and Harvard; and by playing professional hockey for the New York Rangers and later for the Boston Bruins. Upon receiving his law degree from Boston College in 1934, he quit athletics for the practice of law.

The late James Forrestal, former Secretary of the Navy assigned Lane to serve on a committee to draw up and submit recommendations for changes in the Articles of Government of the Navy and in Navy courtmartial procedure. As assistant United States Attorney he has prosecuted both civil and criminal cases. He has been acting chief of the civil and criminal divisions of the United States Attorney's office in New York. Black markets, mail fraud, securities swindles, tax and immigration infractions are some types of cases he has handled for the Government.

A member of the Dartmouth Lawyers Guild, Lane is a bachelor and lives in New York City.
