JOHN G. MEARNS '39, editor of the NewYork Herald Tribune News Service, is now filling the spot of Sunday news editor for that paper, while the regular Sunday editor is on leave as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard this year. Mearns joined the Herald Tribune's copy desk in 1944, served on the telegraph desk, and became editor of the News Service in 1947. Last fall he saw the circuit wire of the service go from coast to coast. Before joining the Herald Tribune staff, Mearns was a reporter for the Wilmington (Del.) Journal Every-Evening. With his wife and two children, he lives in Ho-Ho-Kus, N. J.
