1951 Fund Has $500,000 Goal
March 1951

After careful consideration of College financial problems the Alumni Fund Committee recommended that the objective for the 1951 campaign be set at $500,000. The recommendation was approved by the Alumni Council at its January meeting.

This objective represents an increase of $100,000 over last year's figure of $400,000 and as such clearly calls for thoughtful, proportionate giving by all alumni thoughtful of the values to be preserved by such support of the College, and proportionate to gifts made to other causes.

Chairman Charles J. Zimmerman '23 said, "I am confident that the present situation will bring home to every alumnus the need for giving as much as his circumstances permit. The importance of Dartmouth, and colleges like her, is so critical to a free society that it outranks most other causes. If we really believe in free enterprise and private initiative, our generous and voluntary support of Dartmouth will both preserve and demonstrate their power."

The class agents are already at work organizing their teams, and will be striving for a maximum of face-to-face contact with classmates this year. New agents appointed since the last campaign are: Philip H. Chase '07, Ralph B. Clement '09, George Young Jr. '14, Milton K. Emerson '25, Spencer S. Cook '27, William L. Benger '31, James D. Corbett '32, George W. Copp Jr. '34, Edward P. Offutt Jr. '35, Munroe S. Fitzherbert '36, B. Wright Mallory '38, Frederick L. Porter '40, and Glenn L. Fitkin Jr. '50.
