William J. Embler '28 took on a new position of responsibility February 1 when he became Deputy Comptroller, in charge of the Division of Municipal Affairs, for the New York State Department of Audit and Control.

Mr. Embler, who was formerly Chief Consultant in the Division of Municipal Affairs, joined the Department in July 1948, after several years' work as director of information for the Citizens' Public Expenditure Survey and as editor of its monthly publication. He first became interested in problems of local government when he was a newspaper reporter specializing in government affairs. This interest continued during the five years he spent as managing editor of the Middletown (N. Y.) Times Herald, a post he gave up to accept the assignment with the expenditure survey. He resides in Albany and is a past president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern New York.
