"Tra-a-ack—Begorrah" and "Ski-Heil—Ma- cushla!" The scrambled metaphors denote that the Second Annual Dartmouth Winter Carnival for Southern California fell on St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Two bonnie mountain days, clear and cool, with a spanking "down-canyon" breeze spilling over the shoulder of Old Baldy from the Mojave desert A round two dozen Big Greens, wives and guests pow-wowed at Snow Crest Resort, 6000 feet up in the San Gabriels, 50 miles from Los Angeles City Hall

In order of their appearance, we greeted Will and Gloria Hays '31, daughter Pegs and three guests; Jack and Janet Allen '29, and Polly; Ed and Betty McMillan '41; Clark andMaryon Blyth '28 with their daughter Jane Fleming and a guest; and Drs. Elmer Crehan 41 and Bill Digman '41 and their wives (respectively) Mary and Wini. With the arrival of Dorothy and Wes Hadden '41, just before the big turkey dinner, the party was complete and the class of '41 was 'way out ahead.

The Lodge was decorated from jukebox to rafters with Dartmouthiana, and Cappy andBob Williams '26 served as greeters and MC'd the dinner. No speeches—just lots of singing, good food, and conviviality. A half-keg of St. Louis beer was donated by the Huntington's Wes Hadden '41; a sports short and a couple of "comedy" reels were shown by host Jack Nelson, and the bunch moved down to the new basement Rathskeller where we square-danced, sang—and I mean sang—and blew off the froth till closing.

Early Sunday, most of the younger crowd went up to the Divide near the top of Baldy (a half mile higher than the summit of Mt. Washington, by the way), and got in a good day's skiing on a 14-inch pack. The rest of us visited and jawed and made half-hearted attempts to uphold the reputation of the Association and not send back a partly empty keg. As the sun dropped behind the ridge and headed down toward the Pacific, the last of the crowd headed his car down the mountain. It was a good party.
