THIS is the annual Undergraduate Issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. In years past the contents of the issue have been written largely by undergraduates; this year the issue is about Dartmouth students rather than by them.
To tell what the Dartmouth student of today is like, pictures are a more satisfying medium than words. Accordingly, our lead feature this month is a pictorial story, Today's Undergraduate, presenting some of the representative characteristics of the student body. The photographic skill of Adrian Bouchard, College photographer, has never shown to better advantage than in this six-page spread, beginning on Page 17, and the editors wish to acknowledge the major part he played in bringing this story idea to fruition.
How today's student appears to the professor is described by Prof. Judson S. Lyon '40 of the English Department, whose article, As a Prof Sees Them, appears on Page 23. The part Dartmouth sons play in campus affairs is told by Robert L. Allen '45 in another article, They Pull Their Weight (Page 27); and an account of The Senior Fellowships, completing their first year on a new basis, is written by Edward C. Lathem '51 (Page 29).
