SEVERAL major improvements have been made in the facilities of Mount Moosilauke, Dartmouth's popular ski area near Warren, N. H., it was announced last month by Robert S. Monahan '29, manager of College outing properties.

Major innovation at Moosilauke is the installation of a new 350-foot rope tow serving the slope south of the Ravine Lodge and extending from the parking area to the bank of Baker River. This portable tow was provided for skiers unable to handle the rugged 2,000-foot stationary tow installed two years ago. It will be illuminated for night skiing and will accommodate week-day groups too small to justify operation of the big tow.

Another development, under the supervision of Walter Prager, Dartmouth ski coach, is a 25-meter ski jump near the base of the middle trail toward Jobildunc Ravine from the Ravine Lodge. This new take-off should provide the jumpers on the Dartmouth ski team with a chance to get in early-season form before the big hill in Hanover is ready for use. The new jump makes possible four-event ski meets at Moosilauke, such as the Eastern Prep School Championship to be held there on March 1, 1952.

A private telephone line has been installed from Sawyer Highway to the Ravine Lodge to help control traffic on the final 1½-mile stretch of plowed road which slabs around the south spur of the Blue Ridge, ending at the Lodge.

Robert E. Hooker '30, manager of the Ravine Lodge during the past three winters, is now studying at the Ecole Hoteliere in Lausanne, Switzerland. His place has been taken by William R. Hight Jr., of Warren, assisted by Eric Anderson of Campton, who starts his third winter season as chef at the Ravine Lodge.
