MODERN SKI TECHNIQUE is the first published article describing the method of skiing taught by Otto Schniebs. Mr. Schniebs came to this country from Germany in 1929. He had been for some years head instructor of the Bundesschule in Grohsholzleute im Allgau, a school for the ski teachers of an association of 15,000 skiers. He also had charge of the educational course in skiing for sports directors in Freudenstadt in the Black Forest under supervision of the Wuerttembergische Government.

John W. McCrillis, co-author of the series of articles on skiing, is a Dartmouth graduate of the class of 1919. He is a lawyer in Newport, New Hampshire. Mr. McCrillis was instrumental in interesting Mr. Schniebs in Dartmouth and in securing his services as coach of the winter sports teams.

THE AUTHOR OF the Report of the Faculty Committee on the Library is William Stuart Messer, professor of Latin. He is chairman of this committee which also includes Professors N. L. Goodrich (Librarian), J. P. Amsden, F. L. Childs, C. J. Lyon, H. E. B. Speight, W. R. Waterman. Professor Messer received his Bachelor's degree from Columbia in 1905 and his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the same university in 1909 and 1918 respectively. He was made an Honorary Doctor of the University of Padua, Italy, in 1922. Following several years of teaching at Barnard School and Columbia University he came to Dartmouth in 1919 as assistant professor and since 1923 has held a professorship in the department of Greek and Latin.
