DEDICATED to the memory of Captain John A. Titcomb '32 USMCR, killed in action in World War II, a new cabin on Ledyard Island was formally presented to the Ledyard Canoe Club on November 9, during the first real snow fall of the season.
Among the 20 people present for the ceremony on Ledyard Island were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Titcomb of Farmington, Me., whose gift made possible the building of the new cabin for the use of Canoe Club, members and others.
Working under the direction of Ross. McKenney, D.O.C. Woodcraft Adviser, members of the Canoe Club contributed most of the labor which went into the construction of the new cabin, replacing the old one flooded over when the river level was raised by the Wilder Dam. Andrew A. Titcomb '36, Captain Titcomb's brother, drew up the architect's plan which was used.
Following a short talk by Carlos E. Harrison '53, president of the Ledyard Canoe Club, Prof. Richard H. Goddard '20, the Club's faculty adviser, spoke on the history of the organization, and of Jack Titcomb's. whole-hearted participation in all outdoor activities while an undergraduate. Professor Goddard concluded the dedication ceremony with a reading of the bronzeplaque, to be placed above the fireplace::
