Most of you should be stirring from your post Turkey Day lethargy by now and starting the search for the family recipe for eggnog with which to toast the fat man in the red woolies and long white beard. Rudolph may not have the only shining proboscus at Yuletide! We're still catching up on various romantic affairs in the Class journals, however, and this month we have half a dozen weddings and three engagements to proclaim, so step up and inspect the connubial splices made at..,
The Hitching Post
Two classmates bit the dust on 23 August. Jim Nye was first to go the route of marital involvement when he slipped a ring on the finger of Nancy Ewing, a '52 Smith gal from Petersham, Mass. Jim is in the process of picking up a law degree high above Cayuga's waters.
Out in Evanston, 111., Charlie Solberg met Marguerite Bunnell at the altar of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and came away shortly thereafter with a new spouse. Tom Richmond was best man and several of our elder brethren from '49 directed traffic. The bride logged in two years at 'Hamp and received her degree from Northwestern last June.
The next double-barreled day for Dartmouths two years away from the fold was September 6. In South Orange, N. J., Bill Dey married Dianne Merrall. That's the town they've settled in after their trip to Bermuda. Dave "Rah" Reier ushed at this affair. Dianne is a grad of Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington and Bill picks up shekels for his activities at the J. M. Mathes Advertising Agency in Gotham.
A little further south around Wilmington, Del., Jim Martel and Ida May I.add of Glen Mills, Pa., took their vows that afternoon. Among the ushers was Russ Chase. Mrs. M. graduated from Delaware's university and her hubby gets a bang out of working for the Hercules Powder Co.
Bill McCallum acquired a better half September 19 in Niles, Ohio, when he showed up on time to attend a ceremony with Carolyn Eaton Stein. Bob Kirby was on hand in an official capacity. The bride is a Mount Holyoke alumna. Bill, working for the Walsh Construction Co. of New York, has parked his slippers in Ellenville, N. Y.
Last item on the agenda for now is DonWaite's big day which would have been October 4. As he'd threatened to, he decided to duck rolling-pins thrown by Janet Calvert Miller of Ashland, Pa. More sporting than trying to stop soccer balls in Hanover, D. B.?
Walking the Last Mile
It's been officially chronicled that Dave Bull has snuck away from his legal documents at Michigan often enough to decide to enter into an agreement with Mary Lou Stowers of Glencoe, Ill. The news broke August 10. Mary Lou is a KKT at Northwestern and graduated from Pine Manor J. C.
Larry Starlight has popped the question and received a favorable reply from Mary Elizabeth McCormack. This is a new switch. Mary usually does the asking as school marni in the Parker School of her hometown, Watertown, Mass. Her degree was awarded by Massachusetts State Teachers College in Lowell. Larry wheeled a Master's from John Harvard and has since been engaged as a foreign service officer for the Department of State.
Colby Junior has to be represented in the column, of course, and this month Alice Elizabeth Cuddeback wins the honors having accepted a rock for her fourth digit, left paw, from Lt. Pete Van Orden. Alice lives in Scarsdale, N. Y., and is with the Pittsburgh Agricultural Chemical Co. in the concrete jungle of Manhattan. Pete's doing push-ups at Quantico.
Philadelphia Scrapple
Herb Ray's beer parlor in northwest Washington proved a fine stopping point between Norfolk and the City of Brotherly Love the weekend of the Penn game. A strenuous evening of uke strumming wore out Dartmouth's gift to the Bureau of Ships section of the Navy Department so that he was left behind when we headed for Franklin Field, but Ens. EdTuck hadn't been so affected and was encountered again at the game. Sitting right behind us. on the 50-yard line no less, were the Harry Van Benschotens and Bill Schneiders. The Van Boobelly-benders expect to welcome an income tax deduction around New Year's. After the game there was a right cozy crocktail hour at a local hostelry where we persuaded Dave "Stretch" Pendelton that his trip from Washington, where he sells insurance, would be all in vain if he didn't tinkle the ivories for a few barbershop numbers.
Jim Moore made the long trek all the way from Charleston. S. C., where he left his AMS to do without him for a few days. We were duly advised by Dave and Lee Pittinger that they are not dependent on, the wooly growth of sheep for their livelihood these days as erroneously conjectured here last June. Instead it's Frank W. Winne and Son, Inc., in Phillie where Pitt handles yarns, twines, cordage, wire, and an occasional niblick. Looks like the Capital is a good place to sell insurance since Jim Bristol is down there for Connecticut General Life. Seen in the crowd along the way to the bar was Bill Broadbent about the time we ran into Mac Grant. Reportedly inhabitants of the city but not in evidence were Dan McCarren and Al Harquail. By now most readers will know that the Green showed a lot of stuff in Franklin Field this year for a change although it was all on the defensive side. Highly worthwhile, though. Ya shoulda been there.
Service Scene
It appears that our casual comments have been misinterpreted in some quarters and we hasten to say that anything written here which indicates other than friendly joshing in a manner suitable between good buddies is apologized for. We'll set the record straight in one case that has been brought to our attention and hope not too many other guys are seething at something we may have said without using good judgment.
From Lt. Robert H. Smith's dad comes word that Bob "chafed very much at the comparative idleness of the Q.M. corps and got himself transferred to Infantry. He then applied for O.C.S., completed his training at Fort Benning, then applied for paratroops, came out with the title of jump leader, and is now finishing the very tough training with the Rangers in the Florida swamps and the Georgia hills." Hats off to you, Bob, and don't let us leave your status unknown for so long next time, huh?
We have a note on Pfc. Dave Hepworth stating that he is serving with the 25th Infantry Division in the eastern Korean sector. He arrived in Korea August 4 with the 21st AntiAircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
Grapevine Reports
Ken Rothchild claims he hasn't been able to stand the heat in his apartment during the summer and is just getting accustomed to having a roof over his head towards the end of October. Filled in a few details on Ben andBetty Omholt Johnson, such as their seeing Bob and Joan Mauk, Bill Williams, and BobMcllwain. Oh, yes, he notes that Jim Moore discovered a common interest with the bartender - champagne.
George and Sal Carter claim there's no news in Beantown these days, which seems a little hard to believe. Why don't some of you Hub folk pick up a jar of olives and get a Martini or two mixed at 83 Pinckney St.?

There have been myriads of insurance jobs written down in the class records, so we might as well have a look at them all at once. First one we come to, not taking any order or playing any favorites, is Neivc Eldredge who's underwriting in Denver. . . . Bob Foster handles real estate in Fitchburg, Mass., as well as miscellaneous policies fox* the protection of pocketbooks. .. . Over in Worcester Lloyd Woodbury works for Paul Revere Life. . . . So much for the smoke signals till we have chalked off another 365 ... 366 this time. Hope the next is a great one for you. And let us hear from you.
