The exigencies of the publication schedule of this family journal make it mandatory for this column to be written not later than the middle of the month. Hence we are unable to chronicle for you more than a sample of the rich athletic fare that annually occurs in the period between the end of Christmas vacation and final examinations. In this case, the sample comprises three league basketball games, one league hockey game, and a swimming meet that was not a league encounter. Space limitations being what they are, we trust that you are primarily interested in the league activities of the various aggregations, for that is what you perforce will get. In the interest of the record, it should be noted that both the basketball and the hockey teams had Christmas trips, in which neither was especially successful. The hockey team participated in a tournament at Rensselaer, in which, largely because of previous lack of ice, they were less than completely victorious. The basketball team took an extended jaunt among the powerhouses of the Middle West and were even less successful, succeeding in winning no games at all from consistently topflite opposition. The scores of these encounters are listed elsewhere in this department.
