WITH the spring recess making extended speaking trips possible for the college faculty and officers, 29 engagements with alumni groups in cities ranging from New York State to California have been scheduled for March and April.
Coach Tuss McLaughry will meet with three alumni associations in the Middle West. On March 10 he will speak at the regular luncheon meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Chicago at the Stevens Building Restaurant; on March 12 at a meeting with the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Northwest (Minneapolis-St. Paul); and on March 14 at the Alumni Association of Wisconsin at the University Club of Milwaukee.
John F. Meek '33, Treasurer of the College, will be the guest speaker at a dinner given by the Alumni Association of lowa on March 24 at the Des Moines Club, Des Moines, at 6:30 p.m.
Allen R. Foley '20, Professor of History and Director of the Great Issues course, will meet with seven alumni groups in the Middle and Far West. He is to be the guest of honor at the "Heart of America Alumni Association in Kansas City, Mo., on March 31; at the Dartmouth Club of Eastern Oklahoma at Tulsa, Okla., on April 1; at the Dartmouth Club of Western Oklahoma at a dinner held at the Beacon Club in Oklahoma City at 7:00 p.m. on April 2; the Dartmouth Club of Houston, Texas, on April 4; the Alumni Association of North Texas in Dallas, April 7; and at a dinner given by the Dartmouth Association of the Great Divide in Denver, at 7:00 p.m. at the University Club, on April 9. On his way back to the East, he will speak at the dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Plains, at the Omaha Club, at 6:30 p.m., on April 10.
Guest speaker at six alumni gatherings, George H. Colton '35, executive secretary of the Dartmouth Development Council, will meet with the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Dayton, Ohio, on March 31, the Alumni Association of Cincinnati for a luncheon on April 1; the Dartmouth Club of Louisville, Ky., on April 2; the Dartmouth Club of Indianapolis, for a dinner at the University Club at 6:30 p.m., on April 3; the St. Louis Alumni Association on April 4; and with the Dartmouth Club of Toledo for a dinner at 6:00 p.m., at the Toledo Club, on April 9.
Other speakers scheduled for early April are Prof. Stearns Morse, Dean of Freshmen, and Robert L. Allen '45, Assistant to the Secretary of the College, who will be guests of honor at three New York Dartmouth Clubs: the Dartmouth Club of the Mohawk Valley at Utica on April 1; the Dartmouth Club of Central New York at Syracuse, April 2; and the Dartmouth Club of Rochester, April 3.
President Dickey, who has one speaking engagement with alumni during this period, will go to Detroit to speak to the Dartmouth Club of Detroit on April 8. On the same day, Sidney C. Hayward 26, Secretary of the College, and Dudley W. Orr 29, Trustee of the College, will meet with the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C. Mr. Hayward plans also to be present at a get- together with the Dartmouth Club of Central Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, on April 7.
Speaking trips scheduled for the last two weeks of April will be made by Edward T . Chamberlain '36, Executive Officer of the College, who will travel to the West Coast for six alumni gatherings. He will meet with the Spokane and Inland Empire Dartmouth Alumni Association in Washington on April 14; with the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the State of Washington in Seattle, on April 16; the Dartmouth Association of Oregon at an informal dinner at the University Club in Portland on April 17; the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern California for dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the University Club in San Francisco. on April 21; the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Southern California lor a dinner in Los Angeles, on April 23; and the Dartmouth Alumni Association of San Diego at the La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla, on April 25.
Last month John J. Dell Isola, Assistant Coach of Football, was the guest of honor and speaker at a dinner given by the Rhode Island Dartmouth Association in Providence on February 15; and also at the Dartmouth Club of the Lakes Region in Laconia, N. H., on February 12.
