IN the recognition of television as one of the most stupendous social forces ever to arrive upon the American scene, a great deal of discussion is being centered on the educational and cultural role of this new mass medium. A Dartmouth alumnus, Edward Lamb '24, himself the owner of two television stations, has become a prominent spokesman for those who hold that now is the time to make the decisions that will enable television to develop as a responsible and effective force in education. His views are stated in this month's lead article, Television and Education (Page 19), written at the invitation of the editors of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
The series of Dartmouth Profiles which John Hurd '21 has been writing for us is continued this month in Around the World inFifty Books, the story of Sydney Clark '12, one of the country's foremost travel authors. It begins on Page 23. An account of Dartmouth's 42nd annual Winter Carnival, with pictures, will be found in The Undergraduate Chair (Page 27).
