A recent article in the Rochester (N. H.) Cornier deals in a highly commendatory manner with the methods our classmate, Dr. Forrest L. Keay, has used in conducting the office of Overseers of the Poor and Old Age Assistance since it was established in 1903. Keay's guiding philosophy is summed up in his own words: "Everyone who comes to us is treated with respect as a fellow human. If they need help we try to give it to them within the limits of our responsibility to the tax payers, whose money we-are handling." The cases are carefully screened and "chiseling" by recipients is virtually non-existent. Keay's painstaking ability has been appreciated by nine Governors of New Hampshire under whom he has served regardless of politics.

A recent call from Wendell Williams shows him to be in excellent health, and a discussion of world affairs with him is a privilege. On January 29 your secretary and wife went by airplane to Arlington, Va., to spend a week with son Laurence and family. This means of travel proved so enjoyable they returned home also by plane. Laurence left for Alaska the following week, where he will be stationed at Anchorage as Staff J. A. His family has already joined him.

One of the prized souvenirs of our family is an antique quilt, made on a hand loom by the great-grandmother of your .scribe. This quilt entered Dartmouth in the fall of 1884, when Reed Hall was the only steam-heated dormitory in College, and the winters were so severe that warm quilts were a necessity. Our quilt spent its first four years with your scribe until his graduation in '88, then it served his brother, Dr. Arthur J. Lougee, from 89 to '93. After a lapse of 30 years it was again taken to College by son Richard J. Lougee '27, and again by his brother, Laurence W. Lougee '29. In all the old quilt spent 14 years at Dartmouth, and in the family has been honored with the title, "The Educated Quilt."
