At the New York Alumni Fund dinner on April 2, the James B. ReynoldsTrophy for 1951 was awarded to Marvin L. Frederick '15 as the best classagent of a class more than 25 years outof college. He was cited as follows:
The James B. Reynolds Trophy is awarded annually to an outstanding class agent of a class more than twenty-five years out of college. For the 1951 campaign the Alumni Fund Committee is privileged to honor a man whose record has been truly outstanding over a three-year period.
This man became class agent in 1949 just after his class had achieved one of the finest records ever made by any class at any time. Under the aegis of his predecessor, a recent Alumni Fund Chairman, this class had improved tremendously in both contributors and dollars, winning two consecutive Green Derbies and setting a new dollar record for all classes by giving $17,100 in 1948. Such a pace could only be maintained by an exceptional man. Fortunately it was just such an alumnus who stepped into the picture at that time.
Last spring this agent won the consecutive Green Derby for his class, tying a long-standing record in this respect. To accomplish this he achieved 97% participation for $18,600, considerably larger than the previous class record. Even more impressive he obtained an average gift of $75.70, just about twice the over-all Fund average, and the largest of any class with more than 17 contributors. He has continually seethe pace among his contemporaries, thus inspiring them on to even greater achievement. To make such a record would prove time-consuming enough for the ordinary man but this agent on top of everything else assigned himself the editorship of his class newsletter, performing this extra job with his usual skill.
For these things Dartmouth has good reason to be exceedingly grateful, and the Alumni Fund Committee is indeed happy to indicate its profound respect for the Class of 1915's great class agent, MARVIN L. FREDERICK, by presenting him with this copy of Ernest Martin Hopkins' This OurPurpose as a token of the Reynolds Trophy.
