To ring the curtain down on the 1951-1952 season the fourth and concluding gathering of Dartmouth men in Central Florida was a cruise on the scenic and historic St. Johns River in true holiday style. The motor vessel "Sunshine III" was chartered for the occasion, for our party of 39, including alumni, their wives and guests.
Starting from the Municipal Pier in Sanford at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday afternoon, 29 March, the course lay across Lake Monroe and thence up the winding channel of the river, famous for its unique tropical setting, lovely views and picturesque beauty. After nearly a week of rainy weather we drew an ideal day with sunny skies and refreshing breezes. There were many interesting sights including rare birds, swimming cattle, the vast vistas of the marshes and fishing camps, while every- where were the palm trees which fringed the river and formed the back-drop of the scene as far as eye could reach.
At mid-afternoon the men assembled in the forward cabin to hold the annual meeting of the Club. The principal item was the election of officers for the ensuing year which was conducted with the following results: President— Roger W. Holler '37; Vice President—DonaldA. Cheney '11; and Secretary-Treasurer—Morgan W. Price Jr. '39. Additional members of the Executive Committee: Walter D. Dance '40, Louis W. Ingram '26, and Joseph D. Robinson '32.
Throughout the cruise refreshments were served, while Roger Holler was host to the entire ship's company with a wonderful picnic supper served buffet style on deck. It was late afternoon when we docked at Sanford to end a memorable outing to be entered in large red letters in the annals of the club and each person making the cruise.
