New Offices of Financial Aid And Placement Are Created
July 1952

A NEW Office of Placement and Staff Personnel and a separate new Office of Financial Aid have been established by the College, effective July 1 upon the retirement of Prof. Francis J. Neef as Director of the Personnel Bureau and as Chairman of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans.

Donald W. Cameron '35, formerly Associate in Placement in the Personnel Bureau, has been named Director of Placement and Staff Personnel. Albert I. Dickerson '30, Director of Admissions, has assumed the additional duties of Chairman of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans and in that capacity will direct the entire financial aid program. Robert K. Hage '35, Assistant Director of Admissions, will serve as executive secretary of the scholarship committee and will be responsible for the operations of the new Office of Financial Aid. The administration and collection of loans will be handled by Max A. Norton '19, Bursar of the College.

The responsibilities of the Personnel Bureau for undergraduate counseling are at present under study, and announcement concerning the reorganization of this work will be made later.

Mr. Cameron, as Director of Placement and Staff Personnel, and under the general supervision of the Treasurer of the College, will have four primary responsibilities:

1. To administer all aspects of College employment, other than that of faculty and administrative officers, employees of Buildings and Grounds, and employees of auxiliary activities. This responsibility will include recruitment, salary rates, hours, and other personnel aspects of non-academic employment.

2. To serve as a clearing house for all student employment during the college year and, in particular, to cooperate with the Committee on Scholarships and Loans on student employment in the Dartmouth Dining Association, Baker Library and other departments of the College.

3. To serve as the placement officer for members of the senior class and for alumni and to coordinate the placement activities of the Tuck and Thayer Schools with those of the College. Prof. Arthur O. Davidson, as Associate in Teacher Placement in this office, will be responsible for placement of Dartmouth graduates in elementary and secondary school positions.

4. To arrange for conferences and other meetings of outside groups at Dartmouth during the year.

The Office of Placement and Staff Personnel will be located at 214 McNutt Hall. The Office of Financial Aid will be located at 303 Parkhurst Hall, where aid for upperclassmen as well as freshmen will be administered under the direction of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans.

Student jobs in the Dartmouth Dining Association will continue to be awarded by the Committee on Scholarships and Loans as an integral part of the financial aid program. Student employment in the Baker Library will also be linked with financial aid.
