Oldest Grad 93

FRANKLIN N. NEWELL '84 of Springfield, Mass., who was 93 last April 14, is now Dartmouth's oldest living alumnus, following the death on September 7 of Edgar A. DeWitt '82 of Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Newell, a native of Vermont, is a retired lawyer. A recent report described him in good health, although with impaired vision, and as managing without a companion and doing all his own housework at 137½ State Street in Springfield. Mr. Newell was married twice but had no children. In addition to the practice of law, he was a high school principal and for several years taught business law and government at American International College in Springfield. Mr. Newell was president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Western Massachusetts in 1911-12 and received an A.M. degree from Dartmouth "quite some time ago," as he puts it.
