New Deans

The incorporation of the freshman office into that of the dean of the College has been accomplished with the appointment of two associate deans, one who will act as executive officer under Dean Ralph Manuel '5B, the other who will have specific responsibilities as dean of freshmen.

Alvin J. Richard, currently dean of student services at Xavier University of Louisiana, will become executive officer August 1. Karen J. Blank, former freshman dean at Colgate, will assume similar duties here July 1. Both will report directly to Manuel, who was dean of freshmen at the College before he succeeded Carroll Brewster last summer.

"Since the start of year-round operation four years ago, students have had to undertake initial planning for their entire undergraduate programs while still freshmen," Manuel commented in explanation of the reorganization. "This early involvement in long-range academic planning has underlined for us the importance of integrating the operation of the freshman office with that of the dean of the College."
