STARTING a new publication year (our 46th) after the summer lull always finds the editors in a tempus fugit frame of mind. The fact that Hanover's summer gets busier and busier may account for the shorter months. Certainly a great deal went on from late June until early September, and our picture story this month (Pages 20-23) covers just a part of the bustling summer scene.
Besides reading about "book burning" all summer long, the College continued to look back upon the exciting and successful 1953 Commencement when President Eisenhower spoke and received an honorary degree. The facts about other Presidents who have come to Hanover have never been fully and accurately assembled in an article. This month Edward Connery Lathem '51, from his Baker Library vantage point, tells the whole story in Mr. President, LL.D., beginning on Page 25.
Shorter write-ups in this issue deal with the record-breaking 1953 Alumni Fund (Page 24), the Petroleum Centennial observance (Page 30) and the Bequest and Estate Planing Program (Page 34).

The Cover What might have been the peak of the selling career of John Peterson '53, second-year Tuck, was caught by Adrian Bouchard outside the C & G House a few days before College opened. Freshmen Bob Baehr of River Forest, Ill., and Bob Wohl of Long Beach, Calif., apparently did not succumb, because later we saw this choice piece still available.
