Your new secretary is not used to meeting deadlines unfortunately, and nearly missed this issue due to an unexpected trip to Europe. In fact these notes are being handwritten from Paris.

You will be interested to know that FranFenn arranged a meeting between the retiring and newly elected officers for the purpose of discussing class business as well as indoctrinating us with our new duties. It was a delightful afternoon in September, beginning with lunch at Fran's club with his charming wife Mary hostessing. Bibs and Kay Bankhart,Al and Sherry Bryant, Art Ruggles, RowleyBialla and yours truly had a delightful visit; the girls left us after lunch and we got down to class business. As you know, Fran is the 25th Memorial Gift Fund chairman and although there is to be no active solicitation at this time, we felt the following would be of general interest to the Class:

"The 25th Memorial Gift Fund is a capital contribution made by the Class to the College at the time of the 25th reunion. At that time it is added to the permanent endowment of the College. Prior to the 25th reunion, interest earned on the fund is assigned back to the principal of the fund. After the presentation to the College, interest is channelled through the Alumni Fund and used for current operating expenses.

"The class of 1937 25th Memorial Gift Fund is now in business and ready to receive donations. At the present moment, there is absolutely nothing in the fund.

"Under the present program of the Dartmouth Development Council, no active solicitations for funds can take place prior to the 20th reunion. However, anyone who has an unexpected windfall and wants to make a capital donation to the college may do so through the class of 1937 25th Memorial Gift Fund. Donations of this kind should be sent to Francis T. Fenn Jr., III Pearl Street, Hartford, Connecticut."

Following the business meeting everyone was invited out to the Fenn's for cocktails and dinner hope we have another meeting in Hartford!

In the September 27 issue of the New YorkHerald Tribune magazine section, DaveCamerer had a feature article on Why BabeRuth Quit Baseball which was most interesting. Believe we would have enjoyed hearing Burleigh Grimes and Leo Durocher "chewing out" cub reporter Camerer!

Our Chicago classmates seem to be better connected than some of the rest of us. On a recent Friday afternoon in an attempt to dig up news, your correspondent made a number of phone calls to talk only with non-committal secretaries and get the answer, "I'm sorry but he's gone for the day." And it might be added this was not long after lunch. However, I did have a pleasant chat with Wilma Castle who succeeded in getting Fred to write me a letter, and also made Ed and Gretchen Price late for a football game by demanding details of a recent tough golf match for the Indian Hill Country Club Championship. Ed and brotherin-law Clint Frank of Yale fame were even at the end of eighteen and at the thirtieth tee Ed was one under par and two down. Tough match to lose, Ed, but nothing like keeping those prizes in the family.

Fred Castle writes that John Lindsay is one of the largest promoters of pre-fab houses in the Chicago area. Jim Timson is married again and his family now includes six children with another expected shortly. Barbara andPark Johnston are also adding to their present quota of two children. Incidentally, if you are in need of a lovely chinchilla, see Park or Fred Asher, their supply is so good they even gave the Lincoln Park Zoo a pair.

Bill Tongue is chief economist for Jewel Tea and Clint Demmon managing Chicago Webster, manufacturers of phonographs and recording machines. Tony Turkevich has recently been appointed a full professor at University of Chicago, Institute for Nuclear Studies. This past summer Tony and wife Irene and their two children spent several months on Long Island, combining vacation and work at Brookhaven National Laboratory. How about calling next time you come our way, Tony?

George and Peggy Roewer had planned to come on from California for reunion but last minute complications upset everything, so they'll now have to point toward the Twentieth.

Rumor hath it that Al Romanow has agreed to join the married ranks at last more details later.

Fred Vogt, manager of Price Waterhouse in Brussels, and I just missed getting together by an hour. Fred left for Antwerp for several days just before I could call him.

If my luck holds out, Wayne Ballantyne will be writing the next copy and that should be a welcome change to all of you.
