The visit of President and Mrs. Dickey to Portland on May 4 was the occasion for a large and enthusiastic gathering at a dinner meeting at the University Club. In addition to the guest of honor, 73 persons attended the meeting, the group comprising 29 alumni, 25 wives of alumni, 7 candidates for admission, and 12 parents of candidates and Dartmouth students. The gathering was the largest turnout of Dartmouth people in the history of our small Association. Incidentally, it was the first time we have broken down the barrier against admitting wives to our meetings and the experiment periment was so successful that we are sure that we shall renew it.

President Dickey's splendid address on the subject of "Communism in the Colleges" was most enthusiastically received and we are all very proud of him and of the sensible stand he has taken on this matter.

On the following day, the writer drove the Dickeys to Eugene, Ore., where President Dickey addressed a gathering of about 20 persons (wives were included here, too!) at a luncheon meeting.
