At the annual dinner of alumni officers in Hanover, May 9, Donald P. Cole '19 was named Club Secretary of 1953 and given the following citation by Mr. Hayward:
Donald P. Cole of the Class of 1919, Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C. wherever our honored club secretary has worked and lived, which has been several places in the course of his career as a journalist and public relations expert, Dartmouth activity has picked up. When he headed public relations at Clark University in Worcester he was a productive toiler among leaders of the strong alumni group there. During stints with the government in Washington he has done far more than his share and has lately served as secretary of the Washington alumni group which is one of the largest in the country with now about 600 Dartmouth men in the area to say nothing of a constant procession of visitors to the Capital.
"King" Cole has stimulated an increased Dartmouth activity in Washington with thorough planning of programs at weekly luncheons, numerous other events including summer picnics, Dartmouth Night observance (when, last October, he arranged a distinctive program honoring Daniel Webster), the annual banquet has achieved new stature and large attendance, and other club activities are vigorous and effectively serving the College's welfare.
Our award winner is the proud father of Dr. Donald Cole, Jr., Dartmouth '45 congratulations and an Orr etching to "King" Cole.
DONALD P. COLE '19 last month was cited for his work with the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C., and awarded a Louis Orr etching by Sidney C. Hayward, Secretary of the College.
