Here we are in December with Christmas just ahead of us and our big 20th reunion only six months away. It's the weekend of June 20 and if any of you are going to have trouble getting baby sitters, this gives you fair warning. Doug Ley and Chavlie Gow of the Boston "contingent have accepted the co-chair-manship of the class reunion committee and are now laying the groundwork. You'll be hearing from them.

Fred Croninger is probably wondering about this time what kind of a secretary I am. Late last August I received a long letter from him and never a mention of it to date in the column. Well, Fred, truth is I've been saving it for a time when I could give it all the space it deserves and the time is now. As of last February the Croningers moved to Puerto Rico where Fred had just been appointed, comptroller of International General Electric S.A., Inc. He wigjes:

"Arrived here February 2. On February 8 we bought a partially finished house in Garden Hills, near Guaynabo, and about four miles south of Santurce. We saw it through five weeks of completion - while we stayed at the Condado Beach Hotel. First-class hotel living is nice for a few days, but a thoroughly unsatisfactory way to live for six weeks.

"Finally moved in March 20. The house includes a TV room and porch, both suitable for additional 'sleepers' so we are prepared to handle almost any family who would do us the honor of visiting. Mary, Skip (now 8) and I have been very happy with our new neighbors and friends, who are a mixture of 'Americano' and local. We're also happy with the climate. We expected temperate winters but weren't prepared for the dividend of what I'd call temperate summers, at least compared to what much of the U.S. had this summer. In the middle of the day, in the sun, it's hot and sometimes humid. But usually there's a breeze, there are frequent rains and there's always the ocean close by. Three or four times a week I take my lunch box and at noon hour walk a couple of blocks to the Condado Beach Club for swimming, volley ball, and lunch - and am back in the office in one to one and a half hours.

"The one aspect of life down here that has impressed me most is the 'out-of-doors' living. Hotel lobbies are all open. None of the homes have closed windows but are equipped with shutters and, if you are a continental, screens. Porches are comfortable the year round - day or night. Mary and I are busy learning Spanish by going to class three times a week. By the first of the year I hope to be able to carry on a modest sort of conversation in the language. While Spanish is not required here to get by, it's certainly desirable.

° "We have also enjoyed the island flora. To give you some idea, if you want to start hibiscus, bougainvillea, poinsettias — in fact almost anything - you simply take a knife, cut off a few' twigs, stick them in the ground, and they grow! From June to early August the flamboyants are in bloom - small, medium and big trees with brilliant red blossoms all over. Many of the roads have been planted on both sides with these and it's almost more beauty than you can stand. Since nhones and mail deliveries have not reached us here in the country yet, we're still using the office address - c/o International General Electric S.A., Inc., P.O. Box 9387, Santurce, Puerto Rico.

"P.S. On our way down in January we spent one night with John and Jean Jewett in Boston and another with John and Lu Howe in New York. Guess the Howes are in Iran by now for a few years."

Thanks very much, Fred, and I hope this makes up for my long silence.

This past September Russ Erwin, who has been teaching for the past nine years at the high school in Monticello, N. Y., transferred his activities to the Housatonic Valley Regional High School at Falls Village, Conn. He is an English teacher and received his Master's degree from the University of Vermont in 1943. Russ, incidentally, or perhaps it isn't so incidentally, has five children.

We mentioned him before, but it's appropriate to bring up Doug Ley's name again. Doug was retail chairman for the Belmont (Mass.) 1955 Red Feather Campaign as well as being a town meeting member, co-chairman of the Belmont Eisenhower Committee, moderator of the Plymouth Congregational Church, and serving on the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

Robert the Naramore, who is always sending us odd bits of information in empty bottles, shot along a newspaper clipping the other day, no date, no name of the paper, no nothin' except a picture of Yank Price (that was in the actual caption) and the following copy: "Mr. Price, who formerly sold in New England, is now sales manager of the Lordcastle division of Macon Shirt Co., as noted." The "as noted" part is something Nary must have kept in his hot little pocket. At least I didn't get it.

It's old hat by now, the Army game I mean, but Babs and I went up to see it and ran into a few people you know - the Em McMullens, the Ernie Drapers, the Tom Lanes, the DickMillards and the Bill Davidsons. Also, and this was quite a surprise, Bunny Deutsch. Just had time to shake hands and find out he was up in New York on a business trip from New Orleans.

We regretfully report the death of WallyDow last May 17 in San Jose, Calif. An obituary will appear in the next issue.

Well, gentlemen, that's the news for now. Just want to call your attention to the impressive list of names following. Hope you'll find yours there. And all of you - have a wonderful Christmas with lots of goodies.
