For the fourth consecutive year Dartmouth Parents contributed in record numbers and amount to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund. Almost 1,000 parents of both alumni and undergraduates gave close to $50,000 to the 40th Anniversary Campaign. Notice the steady growth that has featured the early years of the program:
Contributors Dollars 1951 359 $28,184 1952 644 44,120 1953 771 46,279 1954 949 46,784
To me the most significant aspect of the 1954 results is the continued growth in participation. Although we have not yet approached the spectacular heights of 67.7% participation attained by alumni, it is still heartening to know that in the fourth year of the program 21% of the families approached did respond to the Committee's appeal. Many of the donors have sons 011 scholarships at Dartmouth apparently agree with the mother who wrote met I shall share my next modest dividend check with Dartmouth as an expression of my own devotion and loyalty to the College for what it is doing for my son."
On behalf of the Parents Committee, and indeed all the parent contributors, I want to thank the alumni for the opportunity of sharing in this wonderful Alumni Fund with you. It is our privilege, and we shall continue to make the most of it in the future.
