JOHN CURTIS GLOVER '55, Dartmouth's freestyle swimming ace, set a total of eight records in five meets between January 15 and Feb. 13.

The former All-American high school swimmer at Mamaroneck High School set four marks last year as a sophomore and finished fifth at the NCAA championships in the 50-yard freestyle. This winter against Penn he broke the Penn pool record in the 150-yard individual medley (1:34.5), broke his own Dartmouth record in this event, and lowered the Penn 100-yard freestyle record (50.7). On the following day against Navy Glover set an all-time Dartmouth mark of 2:11.8 in the 220-yard freestyle and then broke the Navy 100-yard record with a time of 50.7. A week later, against Army, Glover set a new Spaulding Pool and Dartmouth record of 50.5 for the 100-yard freestyle. He did this on one of the relay legs after winning both the 220 and 100-yard events in the regular dual meet program. And finally, at Princeton, the 22-year old Glover clipped three seconds off his old 220-yard record when he blazed home in 2:08.5.

With the Eastern Championships and the NCAA meets still ahead this winter, plus a full season of competition next year for Dartmouth, Glover is almost a sure bet for national recognition. If he continues at the present rate he should have a good chance to win berths on the Pan-American and Olympic swimming teams.

The Big Green swimming ace is the son of W. Curtis Glover '18, who was a founder of the Dartmouth soccer team. His brother Bill was a swimming star at Yale.
