Seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars is a lot of money to spend on a birthday party. It wasn't too much, however, for General Foods, where they had some twenty million television guests. Another reason why it wasn't too much for General Foods was the fact that they have the profit production and benefit of the talents of two of our illustrious classmates, Jim North and Russ O'Brien. Just this last month it was announced that Jim North had returned to General Foods to head up their Associated Products Division. The New YorkTimes' announcement stated: "Mr. North formerly was vice president of the Market Research Corporation of America and had been with General Foods from 1937 to 1947. Four product groups, Jello, Minute, Certo and Calumet, will report to Mr. North." Congratulations, Jim. We assume that as Mr. "Jello" Jack Benny now admits the advent of his 39th birthday, you, too, will soon 'fess up. As vice president of Benton and Bowles, Inc., New York advertising firm, Russ O'Brien is in charge of several of General Foods' accounts. Among them is "An Amazing New Discovery." You guessed it - Maxwell House Coffee. In the light of these facts, you had better place an order for several hundred shares of GF's stock.

The president of the Peoples Gas, Light & Coke Company, one of Chicago's two principal utilities, recently announced that BillSauer had been designated as budget director for the company. Congratulations, Bill.

After finishing Dartmouth, Tom Kiddoo received a law degree from Northwestern University. Tom practiced for several years with one of Chicago's largest law firms. Since the war, however, lie has been serving as the chief of industrial relations for one of the country's leading business firms, printers and suppliers, Uarco, Inc. This company has its principal offices in Chicago, with five plants spread out over the United States. As might be expected, although in a difficult field, Tom is doing an outstanding job.

In a recent issue of this column I sought to locate Allen Carter. I am happy to announce that a letter has been received from Al, who is head of Garber Export Corporation, 37 Wall Street, New York 5, N. Y. This company is engaged in the exporting of drugs, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Although Al's letter is unfortunately brief, he does state:

"I appreciate your effort to save me from oblivion and wonder what has happened to your liaison with the Dartmouth group in New York, since they are in touch with me regularly. For your records, my home address is: 324 North Village Ave., Rockville Centre, Long Island."

John and Midge Sheldon, with their two children, Barbara and Teddy, recently spent several weeks on a ranch near San Antonio, Texas. John informs me that they had an interesting and restful lime. Among other activities on their trip were various riding ventures and several days in Houston visiting friends. John plans to fly to Hanover to attend the annual Class Officers Association meetings in early May.

I recently received several informative and interesting notes from Howie Sargeant. He reports, among other things:

"Carlos Baker bought me a drink before his recent Library of Congress lecture, and we covered considerable ground in catching up with each other's activities. He looked as debonair and distinguished as the chairman of a great English Department should. Though I could not attend his lecture, I later scrounged the tape from WCFM, which broadcast him 'live,' and played it back. It was topflight lecturing, Suh, well enlivened with metaphor, aphorism and anecdote.

"Sorry our paths don't cross more often. I'm winding up my consultant work for the State Department this month and hope to avoid permanent entanglements long enough to finish up a couple of personal projects, including a holiday!

"Our classmate, Bob Black, is now chief of secretariat services for the Board of Foreign Scholarships, which supervises all the Fulbright Exchange of Persons programs.

"Bain Davis is in the Office of South American Affairs, and is a great expert on Venezuela.

"I missed a good '32 reunion - or am about to miss it - when Wallie Modarelli makes safari to Washington over Easter weekend, plus Joe Roberts - since Myrna and I will be helping to christen our most recent nephew in New Bedford.

"I have inaugurated the clay court tennis season with my annual singles match with Bill Brister. He continues to be a little too tough for me. Bill is talking about a possible assignment in Central America, but there is nothing definite yet."

Don't fail to heed Ben Drew's hue and cry.
