It is with pride that we announce our "fete" of March 26 a huge successl This was the Friday evening in which we had the pleasure to present our own Dartmouth College Glee Club in joint concert with Agnes Scott Glee Club here in Atlanta at Presser Hall on the Agnes Scott College campus. There was a splendid turn-out for the big event which had enjoyed a liberal amount of publicity in advance, via newspapers, radio, and television programs. The featured joint event of Dartmouth and Agnes Scott was Haydn's "Third Mass," a delightful rendition that awed the audience especially when they learned that both Glee Clubs had but an hour's combined rehearsal time before the actual concert. The Injunaires enjoyed several encores, and later in the evening, by special request, entertained the many dancing couples following the concert with further parodies and songs. Furthermore, from all reports, many an Agnes Scott heart still beats fervently for a Dartmouth man, and the impression in reverse as well. What more? ... it was a darned good deal! For special efforts in helping to make this a big party, go a round of special Wah-Hoo-Wahs for BillMarsh '31, who arranged the billeting of the visiting Dartmouth men; Fred Eaton '40, who worked arduously on the overall ticket deal; Lou Fortuna '38, who, as usual, helped to bear the greater burdens of organization and final culmination of the affair.
And, now, a word about the enrollment scoreboard. During the most recent program, we have been able to talk seriously to six different prospective candidates, of which half size up to excellent material for future Dartmouth men.
Just wondering if other Dartmouth alumni are utilizing their directories as they travel to various sectors of the country. Your scribe had occasion to visit in Albany, Georgia, recently, wherein he had a fine phone chat with Jim Gray '37, editor and publisher of the Albany Herald, and a "wing-ding" time with Col. Dave Schilling '39, Commanding Officer, 31st Fighter Escort Wing, U. S. Air Force, Turner Air Base. Dave produced a guided tour of the base and an education in jet planes with modest review of Operation Fox Peter One; this followed by innumerable "horns," a delightful dinner, and plans for a Dartmouth get-together in Albany on a return visit.
TO NOTE: A visit from the esteemed Warner Bentley of Hanover for luncheon in early March; another visit from the one and only Joe Lane '21, Alumni Councilor for the southern area headquartering in Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; Dune Dobie '38, making TV debut to promote the Glee Club concert midst a bevy of southern belles during a fashion parade; Ben Shaver '50, named chairman for the Georgia Dartmouth alumni picnic to be held in late May; Ben Read '32 and Graham Conklin '43, solo at the concert, but escorting strange cups of bubbling water on the sidelines; Dick McCarthy '50, doing an accepted exhibit for Piedmont Airlines and earning free passage on the line; the March monthly meeting held at Mammy's Shanty, and discussion of the previous weekend's Concert.
