The award for the Dartmouth Club Secretary of 1954 was given to Norman L. Simpson '44 of Syracuse, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Central New York, when class and club officers gathered in Hanover for their annual meetings, April 30 and May 1. Following is the citation read at the annual dinner:
Norman L. Simpson of the class of 1944, Secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Central New York, is setting a fast pace. Even though his loyal band of Indians live, work, and carry on under the shadow of one large university, and within hailing distance of a sister institution in the Ivy League, they have been notably successful along many lines of Big Green endeavor.
For example, the Secretary's Office is under constant pressure from Syracuse (and we like to be wanted) to have speakers from Hanover attend their meetings. Syracuse has lately developed an outstanding enrollment program. In spite of the stiff local competition, qualified applicants have been pounding at the gates until this past Christmas more than 100 undergraduates, prospective students and fathers attended a gathering managed by our award winner.
Enrollment work is very important to the College — to seek top quality boys, and in this work Syracuse is getting splendid secretarial help from the alumnus who receives our Alumni Club Award of the Year - Norm Simpson.
