A HURRICANE or the threat of a hurricane is coming to be "the present danger" every time Dartmouth gets ready to begin a new college year. Last September the freshmen blew into town with Edna. This year, while historically minded Hanoverians were all set to draw a parallel between Convocation in 1938 and in 1955, lone veered out to sea and the College on September 21 began its 187 th year under a blue and tranquil sky.
The Class of 1942 is rather fond of claiming that it began college with a hurricane and ended it with a war. Maybe the collapse of the parallel between opening day in 1938 and in 1955 is a good omen that there will still be peace when the newest class in the Dartmouth family winds up its college course in 1959.
