Three captains in freshman sports have been elected during the past month. Henry Hoff of Forest Hills, N. Y., was selected to lead the basketball team; Daniel B. Pierson of Merion, Pa., became squash captain; and Donald R. Thomas of Needham, Mass., was chosen freshman hockey captain.

Hoff, a husky 6'4" lad, is a guard on the basketball team and is one of the top shooters and playmakers under Coach Al Maguire. He played basketball and tennis at St. Paul's School before entering Dartmouth. Pierson, a graduate of Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia, is the number one squash player on the '58 team and has won all his matches to date. He practices with the varsity and apparently will have no trouble making the grade next winter. Thomas is an outstanding defenseman on the hockey team and was chosen to the Bay State All-Star hockey team for two years running. He was co-captain at Needham High School and later attended the Northwood School.

Back field coach Milt Piepul was the first of Tuss McLaughry's assistants to land a new job. Milt was appointed backfield coach under Alva Kelly at Brown University on February 15. Line coach John Dell Isola and end coach Elmer Lampe both have several good prospects and expect to reach a decision within the next month.

Author Corey Ford, long-time friend of Dartmouth and an adopted member of the Class of 1921, has turned over the use of a gymnasium adjoining his Hanover home to Dartmouth students interested in boxing and wrestling. An organized wrestling team has already had two meets to date, while boxing is progressing on an intramural basis. A later issue will report more fully on Corey Ford's contribution to the Dartmouth athletic program.

The February 21 issue of Sports Illustrated carried an article with pictures of the Dartmouth Winter Carnival and the Dartmouth ski team. It was written by Budd Schulberg '36 who was in Hanover to cover the 1955 Carnival.
