Another Big Green team doing well is the swimming squad which has posted two victories against two defeats. Since last month, the Big Green swimmers have downed Amherst, 67-19, lost to Army, 49-37, and trounced Columbia, 61-25.
Against Amherst the Indians had a field day, sweeping eight of ten events. Sophomore Tom Travis won both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, with Dick Prior finishing second in the 50. Captain John Graf captured the 440-yard freestyle and finished second behind Bill Bahrenburg in the 220. Pete Anderson and Don McCree finished one-two in the 200-yard backstroke, while Stu Summers and Bob Michael duplicated this in the diving competition.
Against Army, the Indians had some difficulty. Captain John Graf and Bill Bahrenburg won the 220 and 440 respectively, while Jack Daniels annexed the 200-yard butterfly event and sophomore Bill McClung surprised by taking the 200- yard breaststroke. Cal Raber took second in the 100-yard freestyle, but both Stu Summer and Bob Michael missed their final dives, after leading in points on the others, and this was costly.
In the most recent meet with Columbia the Indian swimmers had an easy time posting a 61-25 victory. The Lions, who earlier had upset Princeton, left three of their top swimmers at home for examinations and this proved a handicap. Dartmouth swept to first place in all ten events, but the winning times were only mediocre and the Indians were never pressed.
