It is. a special pleasure to have President Emeritus Ernest Martin Hopkins '01 as the author of one of our lead articles this month. It has been our hope for some time to have him write about the beginnings of the several alumni organizations that now play such a vital role in Dartmouth affairs, and when he agreed to address the Alumni Council on this topic in January, it was decided to make a tape recording of his talk. For ALUMNI MAGAZINE publication Mr. Hopkins has revised this transcript and has rounded out the story with dates and quotations from the official records. We have only one fault to find: the article does not indicate the all-important role that Mr. Hopkins himself played in TheBeginnings of the Dartmouth Alumni Organization (Page 16).
Vince Jones '52, a Dartmouth Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, achieved a measure of fame this fall when he became the first American since 1931 to win a Rugby Blue. In writing to him about this, we invited him to do an article for the MAGAZINE, and it was one of the best invitations we ever extended, for the result is this month's very interesting and readable article, A Dartmouth Rhodes Scholar WritesHome About Oxford (Page 20). The Cover
Snow, a student and his girl add up to Winter Carnival happiness. The striking cover picture of these three ingredients is the work of George B. Biggs Jr. '51.
