Elected Life Trustee
June 1955

Dr. Ralph W. Hunter '31 of Hanover was elected a Life Trustee of the College at the annual spring meeting of the Dartmouth Trustees on April 22. His election, filling a vacancy caused by the death of Dr. John F. Gile '16, continues a tradition of having a resident of Hanover, in addition to the President of the College, on the board.

Dr. Hunter is Medical Director of the College and a staff physician at Hanover's Hitchcock Clinic, and also serves as Assistant Professor of Neuroanatomy and Neurology at the Dartmouth Medical School. He has been a member of the Commission on Campus Life since its establishment by President Dickey in December 1953.

Dr. Hunter was born in Hanover and is the son of Edgar H. Hunter '01 and the brother of Prof. Edgar H. Hunter Jr. '38 of the Art Department. He attended Hanover High School and Exeter Academy, and after graduation from Dartmouth went on to Johns Hopkins Medical School, where he took his M.D. degree in 1934. He interned at the Massachusetts General Hospital and served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School prior to joining the Hitchcock Clinic staff in 1939.

During the war Dr. Hunter served as a Commander in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps and served at Edgewood Arsenal, Base Hospital Number One at Londonderry, Ireland, and at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Upon his release from the service in 1946 he was named Medical Director of the College and was appointed to the Medical School faculty.

Dr. Hunter is married to the former Ann Harlow Wilkinson of Washington, D. C. They have four children.
