Dartmouth alumni in the Midwest and Far West will have an opportunity to see the Dartmouth varsity basketball team in action next winter. The Big Green will travel to the West Coast during Christmas vacation to meet Southern California in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and then play single games with Stanford and California at San Francisco. From there Dartmouth moves into the Chicago area to play Northwestern at Evanston and Bradley in Peoria. And the Dartmouth basketball team should be the strongest team fielded by Coach Doggie Julian since his arrival in Hanover in 1950.

Although he was not a Dartmouth alumnus, the death of Carl Rood here on May 16 will be mourned by a good many members of the Dartmouth family. Some will remember Carl from his association with his mother in the Rood Eating Club. Others will recall his intense devotion to Dartmouth athletics, for he was a keen follower of all Dartmouth sports, with particular interest in hockey and baseball. During a span of more than 20 years Carl came to know personally a good many Dartmouth athletes and followed their careers both in Hanover and afterwards with great interest. A few months ago Carl remarked one day, "Sometime I'd like to sit down with you and tell you about some of the great boys I've come to know at Dartmouth and about some of the teams and the games I've seen." Unfortunately, we never did get the chance to sit down with Carl and now it's too late. But we know that Carl is still rooting for the Big Green teams he loved.
