With three of their scheduled games postponed or cancelled by rain and a number of practice sessions missed for the same reason, the Dartmouth varsity tennis team under Coach Red Hoehn has been finding the going a bit rough. In the six matches to date the Indians have won only one over Columbia, 8-1 and have lost to Colgate 7-2, Cornell 7-1, Yale 9-0, Williams 5-4 and Harvard 14-1.

With only one letterman, Captain Bill Crotty, back this spring, Coach Hoehn has had to do a lot of juggling and experimenting to settle on any kind of starting order. Currently Crotty has moved up to the number one spot over Stew Stearns who ranks second. Steve Fast, Dan Anzel, Ralph Blount and Tom Hess were ranked in that order for the most recent match with Williams. In the Williams contest Fast, Anzel and Hess were the only singles winners, although Crotty and Stearns both put up excellent fights before losing. Officially there is only one match remaining for the Indians, a May 21 contest with Amherst, but the Army, Penn and Princeton games, all washed out, may be replayed if time and weather permits. Added practice and seasoning may enable the Big Green to win a couple if these contests are replayed.

LOOKS LIKE A RUN BUT IT ISN'T: Buzz D'Avanzo, Green catcher and cleanup hitter, crossing the plate as an infield out ended the inning against Navy. Enough runs did count, however, to give Dartmouth a 6-5 win. D'Avanzo through the Princeton game had a .346 batting average.
