As these notes are being written, the College painters are freshening up the exterior trim of the Thayer School. Of itself, this fact would not be newsworthy since Business Manager Dick Olmsted '33 does a consistently notable job of keeping Dartmouth looking spic and span. The significance of the event, however, lies in the fact that the portable radio on the painters' platform outside my window is bringing me the play-by-play of the DodgersYankees competition and I find my concentration on Thayer School News persistently pestered by half-heard balls and strikes.

Having brought Dick Olmsted into this column through the side door, let me go on to offer him congratulations on his recent elevation to the important post of Business Manager of the College. The business activities of the College seem to be ever on the increase and the pressure on Dick and his Plant and Operations staff has been steadily mounting. This promotion is a well-deserved recognition of Dick Olmsted's ability and loyalty.

A recent letter from Kisuk Cheung CE'54 brings the news that, after serving his two-year stretch in the Army, he has returned to his native Korea with Morrison-Knudsen International on the Hwachon Hydro-electric Project. Says Kisuk, "Often my duty here extends beyond the realm of designing civil structures, and the job calls for good understanding in 'helping the other fellow.' The American aid projects are bringing the war-torn country into fair shape, but these have to be accompanied by good inspirational persons."

New arrival to the Hanover community this fall is Joan Ellen Pinhero Scher who was married to Bill Scher ME'57 in Saint John's Church, West Orange, N. J., last June. Congratulations to Bill, welcome to Joan.

An early-summer press release announced that Clem Burnap '40 has joined Reynolds Metal Company. He is connected with Reynolds International which has controlling interest in the overseas manufacturing operations of the company including plants in Mexico, the Philippines, Canada and Cuba. Clem joins Reynolds after three years with Sharpies Chemical and Industrial, Ltd., and prior to that connection he had been Export Manager of Clark Brothers Company, compressor manufacturers. In his new position, he will be located at the Reynolds Executive Headquarters in Richmond, Va.

Congratulations to Tom Ritner EE'55, former Teaching Fellow at Thayer School, on his marriage last April to Dianna vanPelt Franklin at Lake George, N. Y.

I missed seeing Gordon Robertson TT'50 and Mrs. Robertson when they paid a visit to Thayer School last summer. Gordon, who has been with the Ford Motor Company since graduation, has recently moved to their new plant in Lima, Ohio.

Vic Macomber CE'52 and Fred S. Faber Jr. have announced the formation of a partnership as consulting engineers under the firm name of Macomber and Faber with offices at 1824 North 4th Street, Harrisburg, Pa. Appropriately, the firm's telephone exchange is CE 6.

Hank Parker CE'47 spent a weekend in Hanover recently, coming down with Pauline and their two children from their current home in Montreal. Hank is assistant project superintendent for Winston Brothers on the Beauharnois Lock project twenty miles upstream from Montreal on the St. Lawrence. After nearly ten years of assignments in more barren spots, Hank is happy to be back where the snow flies and the skis sing.

We were saddened to learn of the accidental death on July 3 of Jack Ahearn CE'48. At the time of the accident, Jack's home was in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was killed instantly when a crane on a construction job on which he was employed in that city came into contact with high tension power wires. Jack leaves a wife and five children to whom we extend the deepest sympathy of all Jack's Thayer School friends.

I am always hesitant to list visitors at Thayer School because I'm afraid there are others whose names didn't find their way to our list, but nevertheless running this risk, the following alumni have dropped in during recent months: Ray Evans EE'50 and Mrs. Evans who were vacationing with their three children from Ray's post as instructor in mathematics and athletic coach at Penn Charter School, Philadelphia. After graduation from Thayer School, Ray served as Research Assistant at Thayer School before joining the Penn Charter faculty.

Frank Alschuler CE'46 took time off from his architecture office (Frank S. Alschuler) in Chicago for an eastern trip and a visit at Thayer School.

Bob Anthony CE'45, Paul Lacke EE'48, Jack Schaeffer EE'48, Allison Dunn '22, Ben Brewster CE'47, and Henry Torpey EE'49 have paid brief visits to the School. As an exception to the general rule, Henry was brought to Hanover by business, his firm, the Thompson Engineering Company having the electrical contracts on the Thayer Hall improvements and the new dormitory construction.

Also here on business are Jack MorganME'54, who has returned to school as a secondyear mechanical engineering student after completing his army service, and LeonardJones EE'55 who has returned to second-year electrical engineering work after a year of secondary school teaching.
