Birthday greetings to our one of April birth, Herb Rogers. March was our Treasurer's Month, Ed Skinner's, but we didn't learn till afterwards of the surprise birthday party given him by the ladies of Worcester's Adams Square Congregational Church. It was Ed's 80th birthday. He had been in the contracting building game when World War II broke out, but what with the shortage of men and materials at that time, he had to give it up. The church needed a sexton then, and Ed took on "temporarily" just to help out. He's still helping out. And now the Skinners are planning on their first plane ride, in May, to California for the 25th wedding anniversary of Mrs. Skinner's niece. It will be the Skinner's 43rd anniversary.
Tim Lynch is still enjoying the salubrius climate of Pinehurst, N. C., but will be back in Cotuit before you read this. Roberta Kennedy, Warren Kendall's daughter, surprised Tim with a call on February 24. Seems that she was there at Pinehurst with her husband and friends for a weekend of golf. Anne Oakes was at son Tom's, Guadalajara, Mexico, for a month. Jack Ash has been avisiting in Phoenix, Ariz., and at daughter Alice's, San Leandro, Calif. Expected to be back in Corvallis, Ore., before the end of February. Reports punk weather everywhere he went.
The Class of '99's perennial gathering took place on March 3, the first Saturday of March, as has been our custom these many years. Many, yes, for this was the 56th consecutive year of the '99 Roundup, and at the University Club, Boston, as usual. Eight of the 34 living members of the class and ten guests were present at the luncheon. Present were Ed Skinner, Hawley Chase, Kenneth Beal, Sam Smith, Ralph Hawkes, Herb Rogers, Phil Winchester, and Joe Gannon. Warren Kendall, Tom Whittier and Herb Watson had planned on being present, but at the last moment had to forego. Guests present were Cliff Fifield, to give us a report on George Clark, Arthur Beal and wife, Winter Read and wife (Joe Gannon's daughter Genevieve), Mrs. Winchester, Miss Eunice Miller, Joe Gannon's sister Helen, Mrs. Kenneth Beal, and Mrs. Rogers.
Though the meeting was a very pleasant one for all present, we sadly missed DaveParker, who had passed away February 25, as had Arthur Abbott on February 18, both of Manchester, N. H. Memorial notices will appear in the May issue.
