There may be references to our spring weather, lack of, in other sections of this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and some of them may originate a lot farther south than Hanover, so no mention of our spring weather, lack of, will be made in this column.
A good letter from Jack Martin CE'51 brings the news that he is now located near Fresno, California - mailing address Box 967, that town — where he is working on the construc- tion of two rockfill dams for Pacific Gas and Electric Company in the high Sierras. Jack's firm of Morrison-Knudsen is one member of the joint venture combination of Morrison-Walsh-Perini. More important, however, is Tack's engagement to Miss Mickey Reinhard of Morrison-Knudsen, Los Angeles. A June wedding is planned in Switzerland, Mickey's former home, to be followed by an extensive wedding trip in Europe.
Congratulations are also in order for Jane and Tom Barr CE'50 on the birth of daughter Cynthia on March 29. Tom has been located in Bethel, Maine, on building construction for the firm of Barr, Gleason and Barr of New York City, and has recently been transferred back to the metropolitan area.
After a short stretch on the Pacific coast, the Bruce Mathesons CE'55 have returned to New England and, according to latest report, direct from Pop himself, are now living at 6 Carpenter Street, Middleboro, Mass.
Long overdue is my recording of the arrival on January 20 to Peggy Garran Bergethon and Ed Bergethon ME'48 of Stephen Millard Bergethon. Apologies for the oversight and congratulations to Peggy and Ed.
Jack Woods ME'52 writes that he is at last a civilian again and has a position with the John Swenson Dry Docks in Jersey City. Jack finds that his work calls on his entire engineering background and he is headed for a position of owning his own business. Jack is also enrolled in New York University as a candidate for a MBA degree. The Jack Woods were to move into their own home at 64 Dryden Road, Upper Montclair, N.J., late in April.
Tad Comstock CE'48 has recently given up his connection with the Anderson Nichols Engineering firm in Concord to become field engineer for the Portland Cement Association covering the states of New Hampshire and Vermont. The district office is in Boston but Tad will be able to conduct operations principally from his home in Boscawen. Tad finds time hanging lightly with his two daughters, and other extracurricular activities including being deacon of his Congregational church, explorer adviser for the Boy Scouts of Penacook, chairman of his local Red Cross chapter, and secretary-treasurer of the New Hampshire Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
The Avery Engineering Company of Cleveland, Ohio, announced on March 26 the election of John Thomas (Jack) Avery ME'51 as Vice President and Secretary. Jack is in charge of the Products' Department, is a member of the American Society of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers, and is registered as Engineer-in-Training in Ohio.
The Landers Corporation of Toledo, Ohio, announced in February that Timothy Y. Hewlett Jr. TT'49, formerly assistant purchasing agent, has been appointed general purchasing agent and elected' assistant secretary of the corporation. Tim has been with Landers since 1954 having previously served in the financial department of Harris-Seybold Company and with Owens-Corning Fiberglas.
