Physics Library Given to College
June 1956

Herbert L. Shuttleworth II '35 (right) is shown above with Prof. Allen L. King, chairman of the Department of Physics, at the dedication on May 1 of the Arthur W. Shuttleworth Memorial Library in the Wilder Physics Building at Dartmouth. He is the donor of funds for the creation of this physics library memorializing his father.

The library will serve as an instructional tool in undergraduate courses and as a research facility for graduate students and faculty members. Located on the second floor of Wilder Hall, adjoining both classrooms and laboratories, it consists of two sections: one devoted to stacks and the other to a reading and periodical room. The library has an open-stack policy, with access to its collections freely available to users.

Mr. Shuttleworth, the donor, resides in Amsterdam, N. Y., where he is president of Mohasco Industries, established recently through a merger of the former Mohawk and Alexander Smith carpet manufacturing companies.
