FRANKLIN SMALLWOOD '51 has been named Executive Assistant to President Dickey, succeeding Thomas E. O'Connell '50, who has resigned his Dartmouth position to accept appointment by Governor Harriman as administrative deputy in the New York state budget bureau.
Mr. Smallwood comes to Dartmouth from Washington where for four years he was administrative assistant to the general manager for research and development of the Atomic Energy Commission.
A native of Ridgewood, N. J., he received his Master's degree in public administration at the Littauer Center at Harvard University. He is completing work for his doctorate.
As an undergraduate, he was managing editor of The Dartmouth, and a member of Delta Tau Delta, Casque & Gauntlet, Green Key, and the Undergraduate Council.
He will also serve as President Dickey's military coordinator with the ROTC units at Dartmouth. Albert I. Dickerson '30, dean of freshmen, will reassume the duties of executive director of the Trustees Planning Committee, a post Mr. O'Connell had taken over from him.
Mr. Smallwood was married in 1951 to the former Ann Logie of Upper Montclair, N. J. They have two daughters, Susan 3, and Sandra, 1.
