Jack Childs '09 received the award asClass Newsletter Editor of the Yearwhen the class officers held their annual meeting in Hanover last month.Following is the citation read by JamesB. Fisher '54, director of the class newsletter program:

John R. Childs, Newsletter Editor for the Class of 1909: For many years now your fortunate classmates have been able, almost every month, to find the postman carrying good cheer and fond memories in the form of your sprightly 1909 DartmouthDiddings. These year-round newsletters have claimed the interest and nostalgia of every true son of '09, bringing welcome word of classmates and their families written in your lively and readable manner, and have promoted strong class participation in all Dartmouth activities. Rarely does an issue go by that does not contain some humorous anecdote of a bygone era and at least one or two clever and original poems. Your efforts have made the Diddings out-standing among Dartmouth class newsletters and have molded it into a strong tie between your classmates and their alma mater.

And, not satisfied with editing the 1909 newsletter, you have also found time to write the 1909 column in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and send to Hanover bulging bundles of clippings and stories of Dartmouth men from every class and all parts of the country. This time-consuming work has been of invaluable assistance to many of your fellow newsletter editors and class secretaries.

For the truly excellent job you have done in editing the 1909 Diddings and for your loyal services to your Class and College, we are privileged to honor you here tonight as the outstanding Class Newsletter Editor of 1957, by presenting the Dartmouth Class Newsletter Award.

We trust that for many years to come the cheerful 1909 Diddings will wind its way from your home on the Pioneer Trail into the hands and hearts of '09ers everywhere.
