ROBERT JOHN DELAHANTY, who was Professor of Physical Education and Director of Recreation at Dartmouth for many years until he resigned in 1945, died May 5 at the Barnstable, Mass., Hospital after a brief illness. He was 76.
Mr. Delahanty left Hanover to devote full time to two widely known camps he owned and directed at East Brewster on Cape Cod - Camp Monomoy for boys and Camp Wono for girls. His relations with Dartmouth remained close and many students worked with him in the summer as camp counselors.
A graduate of Springfield College in 1911, Mr. Delahanty was physical education director at the Gloucester YMCA, Brookline High School and Worcester Academy before coming to Dartmouth in 1926 as Assistant Professor of Physical Education. He was named Director of Recreation in 1928 and in 1936 received Dartmouth's M.A. degree when he was promoted to full professor.
He leaves his wife, the former Emma L. Berry, and three daughters, Mrs. Frank W. Garran ('42) of Barnstable, Mrs. Edward E. Richardson of East Brewster, and Mrs. Arlen Baillie of Wilmette, Ill.
