A conference of college presidents and defense officials held June 24-25 in Baker Library's 1902 Room discussed the role of civilian education in furnishing officers for military service through college ROTC programs. The conference, presided over by President Dickey, was called in conjunction with the study of the ROTC programs and their relationship to higher education being undertaken by Prof. John W. Masland and Eugene M. Lyons, both of Dartmouth's Government Department, under a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
