Hanover Holiday, 1959
APRIL 1959

THE schedule for the 1959 Hanover Holiday, recently announced by the program's director, Prof. Herbert W. Hill, gives promise of an unusually interesting "alumni college" this year. Extending over a six-day period from June 15 through the 20th, Hanover Holiday comes at a time when many alumni will be in town for Commencement, reunions, or the annual meeting of the Alumni Council; and all members of the Dartmouth family who can are strongly urged to attend.

Featured this year will be the regular series of lectures and panel discussions, the program being roughly divided into two parts to accommodate the older reuning classes Monday and Tuesday and the younger classes during the remainder of the week. For this second part, Thursday through Saturday, maximum advantage is taken of the talents and special professional qualifications of members of the 25-year class, which this year is 1934.

In addition to its traditional features, the 1959 Hanover Holiday offers as an innovation a special program of seminars to be conducted on Tuesday and duplicated again be Saturday for the benefit of both groups of classes. These seminar sessions are to be conducted by the English and Economics Departments, with plans for more departments joining in next year's program. Meredith O. Clement, assistant professor of economics, will lecture on "Current Inflation and Economic Policy," and Professor John Finch of the English Department will talk on "The Diminishing of Job." Both men will lecture at 9:45 a.m. on both days, with the audience breaking up into smaller discussion groups at 10:45 a.m.

Alumni planning to take part in either seminar are requested to complete before arriving in Hanover the reading assigned by the department conducting the seminar. The assigned reading for the English seminar is The Book of Job, King James Version of the Bible, and J.B. by Archibald MacLeish. For the economics seminar the reading is Prosperity WithoutInflation by Arthur F. Burns, Fordham University Press, 1957. (Also in paper-back: Economica Books, Smith, Keynes, and Marshall, 4498 Main St., Buffalo, N. Y.)

Since only a limited number may attend these discussion groups, those who wish to participate are urged to fill out and return the accompanying form as soon as possible.

For those who do not wish to take part in the seminar programs, Dartmouth College Films at the same time on Tuesday and Saturday will show its new picture Mountain Farm, featuring Hanover Artist Paul Sample '20, who will lead a discussion after the showing.
