The CAR Study
APRIL 1959

The Committee on Alumni Relations (CAR) was established by the Trustees Planning Committee in March 1956, with a broad directive to study all aspects of Dartmouth's alumni organization and relations and to recommend ways for improving them. Guy P. Wallick '21, later Alumni Council president, was named chairman; and others who served on the committee were Sidney C. Hayward '26, secretary, the late Richard M. Pearson '20, Sidney J. Flanigan '23, George B. Redding '29, George C, Nickum '31, Robert S. Oelman '51, Carlos H. Baker '32, John E. Masten '33, Donald C. McKinlay '37, Charles G. Bolté '41, Harry C. Bush '44, Malcolm McLane '46, Robert A. Bowler '51, David M. Leslie '51, and Prof. Arthur E. Jensen, Dean of the Faculty.

After a two-year study, conducted by five subgroups (history and purpose, communications, organization, intellectual interests, and alumni activities), CAR submitted its final report to TPC last June. Some recommendations have already been put into effect with TPC approval, and others have been referred to the Alumni Council and other agencies for action or study.
