THE appointment of nineteen new chairmen of academic departments at Dartmouth College was announced last month by Prof. Arthur E. Jensen, Dean of the Faculty. Chairmanships of the 37 departments in the undergraduate College are rotated regularly under the rules governing faculty affairs.
The new chairmen and their departments are:
Air Science, Col. Everett Newton; Art, Prof. Richard Wagner; Chemistry, Prof. Douglas M. Bowen; Classics, Prof. Norman A. Doenges; Geography, Prof. Robert E. Huke '48; Geology, Prof. Richard E. Stoiber '32; Government, Prof. Laurence I. Radway; History, Prof. Herbert W. Hill; Humanities, Prof. Harry T. Schultz '37; International Relations, Prof. H. Wentworth Eldredge '31; Mathematics and Social Sciences, Prof. Thomas J. Finn; Music, Prof. Paul Zeller; Physics, Prof. Francis W. Sears; Public Administration, Prof. Martin L. Lindahl; Romance Languages, Prof. George E. Diller; Russian Civilization, Prof. Charles B. McLane '41; Religion, Prof. Fred Berthold '45; and Zoology, Prof. Norman K. Arnold.
In addition, Prof. Hugh S. Morrison '26 will succeed Prof. James F. Cusick as Director of the Great Issues Course at the beginning of the winter term.
