WITH THE BIG GREEN TEAMS
February 1960

LASTIAST month's report that the Big Green winter teams generally would do well appears to be borne out by the results through mid-January. Both the Dartmouth basketball and hockey teams are currently leading the Ivy League and are expected to remain on top throughout the season. The basketball team has a 4-0 league mark and a 6-3 overall record, while the varsity hockey team has lost only one contest in seven outings and has a 2-0 Ivy record. The varsity swimming team has won two dual meets thus far, while Dartmouth's track team has a 1-1 record in dual competition, and the varsity squash team has one victory in three matches. The other team on the losing side is wrestling, in which the Indians have lost their first two matches. Varsity totals for the six winter teams show sixteen wins against eight losses.

Slightly less impressive is the record of the Dartmouth freshman teams. The '63 basketball team has a 4-1 mark to date, while the hockey team has only one victory against three defeats. The swimming team has two victories and the track team has one dual meet win against no defeats, while the freshman squash team dropped its opener this past weekend to Harvard. Freshman totals, for five teams, are eight wins against five defeats. The varsity and freshman figures together make an overall 24-13 record.

The month ahead, of course, will be the critical one for the Big Green teams. The varsity squads compete against traditional Ivy League foes, the ski team moves into the winter carnival circuit, and the freshman teams likewise meet their toughest opponents.
