Following an early season triangular meet victory, the varsity track squad had an easy time of it in a dual meet against Boston University at Memorial Stadium, winning 95-40. The meet featured several record-breaking performances including a new collegiate high jump record by Boston University's world record holder, John Thomas, plus a new record in the two-mile race by Dartmouth's Tom Laris and another record in the discus toss by the Big Green's George Ramming. In two recent meets - the Penn Relays and the Heptagonals - the Indians did not fare as well. Laris and Ramming were the two Dartmouth entries in the Penn Relays but neither finished in the money.

In the Heptagonals the Big Green finished a disappointing ninth as they edged out only Columbia. Yale won the meet with Harvard second, while Brown finished in eighth place, seven points ahead of Dartmouth. Most disappointing to Dartmouth fans was the loss of the twomile race by Tom Laris, who was edged out in a fine race by Bobby Lowe of Brown. George Ramming, defending his discus title, also was disappointed and had to settle for third place this year. John Ebers' fourth place in the 220 low hurdles and John Holland's third in the pole vault accounted for other Dartmouth points.

Tom Laris added another feather to his war bonnet the week before the Heptagonal Championships by running the mile in 4:11.3, a new Memorial Field record. Harvard provided the opposition and won the meet, 72½-67½. Laris' time was three seconds better than the record set by Al Bauer of Army in 1941. Laris also captured the two-mile run against Harvard with a time of 9:29.3.

A dual meet with Colgate and the 1.C.4.A. meet remain on the schedule.

George Ramming set a new Memorial Field record in the discus on April 23 with a toss of 167 feet, six inches. The old field record was 161 feet, three and a half inches set in 1957. The toss also broke the College record set by Ramming in 1959 at 161 feet, seven inches. Ramming has also been elected Captain of the 1960-61 basketball team.
