The 1960 Alumni Fund Campaign has exceeded $600,000 according to a report released on July 5 by the Fund office. The grand total on that date was $602,000. This total reflected $487,000 given during the Campaign by some 9,500 alumni, parents and friends, plus approximately $115,000 from Class Memorial Funds and from endowed funds established by alumni to yield annual income for the Alumni Fund.
The final dollar and contributor totals for the 1960 Alumni Fund will not be available until late July. By that time the Fund office will have had the opportunity to check all records and receive final information on income credits. Many gifts postmarked June 30, the deadline for the 1960 Alumni Fund, were still being processed by the Fund office early in July.
Included in the total was $25,450 received from 825 parents of Dartmouth undergraduates and recent graduates, plus a large number of Memorial gifts made by widows, relatives and friends of deceased alumni.
Although direct contributors to the i960 Fund totalled just under 10,000, the final count may be almost double this because of the Fund Committee's ruling that all alumni who participated in the Capital Gifts Campaign are automatically counted as i960 Fund contributors for participation and regularity purposes.
While the 1960 dollar total is well below the million dollar i960 goal Fund Chairman Donald F. Sawyer '21 hailed the results as "a marvelous showing of alumni strength and devotion." Fie pointed out that many alumni are still paying on pledges to the Capital Campaign and that many others have only recently completed pledge payments. "I think it is crystal clear," said Chairman Sawyer, "that the Alumni Fund has been reactivated this spring in as strong a manner as possible and that thanks to the work of our Class Agents and the generosity of thousands of Dartmouth men, we can look forward with great confidence to the future."
